It’s about that time of year again. Between the fourth of July and October first, hundreds of songwriters from around the world set out to accomplish one mammoth goal—to write fifty songs in just ninety days. The whole charade takes place over at fiftyninety.fawmers.org, the official site of the 50/90 challenge. So why in the heck would one want to try to write so many songs in such a short stretch of time? I find that of the songs I write, I keep probably less than 10%. If I churn them out in bulk, I’m sure that I’ll find at least a couple gems worth keeping. Plus it’s great fun, and the community on the site is full of expertise in a variety of different areas. Skill levels range from absolute beginners to seasoned vets, but everyone is equally encouraging and supportive. So head on over to the site, check it out, maybe register, and jump right in!
