"Factory of Funk"

I’ve been working on this little 12-bar head since Tuesday evening, tentatively titled “Factory of Funk”. I stole the changes from T-Bone Walker’s “Stormy Monday” of all places, then transposed them up to E♭, and added some color by adding triads on top of each chord to my liking (a suggestion from my composition teacher, which actually made for a very fun exercise!). The alto sax has the melody, and the other horns do mostly supporting hits which I did while toying around with Sibelius 7’s “arrange” feature, which is pretty much the coolest thing since sliced bread. I’m really having fun with this one, and there’s a strong possibility my jazz combo will be performing it at a gig next tuesday!

Listen to a sample:

*the audio isn’t mixed well in the sample, that’s just a midi export from Sibelius mixed straight down into mp3.
